Archive Images

Hello all! I hope you had a lovely holiday. New years is rapidly approaching and one of my resolutions is going to be illustration related. As in I'm gonna start busting my butt to be a professional. So here are a few older paintings that I wanted to archive on my blog for potential jobs. I needed a few more examples of my work with acrylics. The first two are modified magic cards and the last is from a college project to illustrate George Orwell's 1984. Enjoy!

Educational Posters and a Menu

Hello! It's been a while. I've been very busy with work in the salon. Not just salon work but design work as well. The first two images are two versions of an advertisement for an educational event. The last set of images are the evolution of a menu of complimentary services that are part of every appointment in the salon.

Rhode Island Classic logo continued...

Made some edits to the original choice per request of the league. I'm pretty happy with them. I really liked the progression of this project. It taught me new things about making logos.

Final edit:

Rhode Island Classic logo commission

My most recently finished professional commission is from the Track and Field League of Rhode Island. My father has been a track official for many years, as have I. And I've been fortunate to make many good connections in the community. For this year's Rhode Island Classic, they needed a better logo. I was lucky enough to design some for them. The main logo on this website is designed by me.

And here some alternate logos I made for them.

WeLoveFine.com T-shirt Contest

Hello readers,

I know it's been a while since I've been able to update. I've been very busy with work and pieces that have close deadlines. On top of my original Adventure Time commission, which is on a short hiatus due to the urgency of other work, I've made a design for a t-shirt contest for the same show. The winner of the contest wins a large cash prize, so please vote for me starting on September 10th!

From Bad to Worse: Refined Sketch

Just a more refined sketch I whipped up, adding more main characters than candy zombies.

Seriously love drawing Zombie Jake :3

Adventure Time commission

I just got commissioned to do a really fun project! A friend of mine from North Carolina asked me to paint him a scene from an episode of Adventure Time. Specifically, he wanted Finn the Human running away from the candy zombies in the episode "From Bad to Worse"

Here are some preliminary sketches. Enjoy!

Work at work.

My new job has been kind enough to give me the responsibility of redesigning suggestion pads for clients. As a large salon, they have many different service options and a large amount of retail. To help the guest find the correct products and learn how to use them, they have the pads.

Here is the first one I did for the hair department.

New Business Card

Hey all,

I decided I needed a new business card since I haven't updated it since college and my old one didn't have this blog on it! What do you think?

Shear Sharpener Logo Commission

Hello all!

My apologies in the delay in updates. I've recently relocated and started a new job. I've also been working on a logo commission for a very talented and friendly gentleman I met while working in the salon business. He wanted a new logo for his company. Here are a few sketches and the final result.

Final image is owned by Edgy Guy Shear Sharpening Inc...

1st Commission: Logo

As a main source of income I am a salon receptionist. I enjoy it very much and find that I am able to express my creativity in that environment. Two of my jobs I created unique salon themed art for their interior design. I also made connections with others in the salon industry like reps from product distribution companies and shear sharpeners who freelance from one salon to another. One of these sharpeners asked me to design a logo for him. He was looking to improve his visual marketing.

Here are the sketches I came up with based on the criteria he provided me with. Sorry about the poor quality!

A wonderful night for sketching

Last night I was in a particularly inspired mood. I sketched in a group of fellow artists and I find that I feed off the creative energy in the room. We all did some great sketches. Mine were on the...stranger side. Enjoy!

I was looking at a lot of spinal chord and skeletons lately to help with figure drawing.

...I couldn't tell you honestly. It's just a turtle squid....
I like drawing tentacles and snakes. Something about really curvy lines appeal to me.
You gotta watch out for those dream spiders, man.

Hip Hop Poster Final: Concrete Scrupules

Well I finished it just in time for June to begin. I need to brush up (or learn more) graphic design because despite hours of obsessively trying to fix this, I'm not really happy with how the type ended up. No matter what I did, it just didn't look like what I wanted it to. But the illustration part of it, I'm very proud of. Any viewers from North Carolina, definitely check out this event!

John Hicklenton: Illustrator

If any of you have not seen any work by John Hicklenton or have not read his last, and arguably best, piece of work; 100 Months, you need to go find it. It's savage, beautiful, and haunting. The style evolves and mutates as you read each page. The plot, while complexly metaphorical, is relatable and stirring.

He was a master of our time and passed on too soon. I greatly admire his work and identify with it. Check it out!

Hip Hop Poster- Almost Done!

So I'm done with all the hands on work. Which means I have to switch over to digital and edit a few things, add typography, ect... I think I'm going to get rid of the typography I've already painted on there, i don't want the words to become confusing once I'm done. Also...i just don't like how it looks haha.

Hip Hop Event Poster

I was very fortunate to meet a fellow artist with a fondness for the Charlotte independent art and music culture when I visited North Carolina in April. Talking with him was very inspiring for me. I was also lucky enough to have him ask me to donate an illustration for this community event he was in charge of. When I asked him what he wanted he said "A funky character throwing the stink eye!" Ummm I sort of did that. Here is a progression of photos of the piece. It's not done yet but it will be soon!
